About Dr Hugh Blackley
Hugh Blackley is an Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Auckland with a major focus on the surgical management of arthritis, hip and knee joint reconstruction, and hip and knee joint replacement surgery.
He was the first to pioneer modern hip resurfacing in New Zealand in 2003, trained directly by the designers of the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing device.
Since then, Hugh has performed more hip resurfacings than any other surgeon in New Zealand — approximately 200 per year — and remains the country’s most experienced surgeon in the procedure. He also serves on the Australasian Surgical Advisory Panel for Birmingham Hip Resurfacing.
